In case you couldn't ruddy hear my smile across the far recesses of the good ol' UK, let me catch you up:

Yesterday morning, as I'd the bloody incredible fortune of waking up next to my gorgeous girlfriend and I was thinking how sodding brilliant it'd be to wake up next to her all ruddy the time, a ring found it's way into my possession. Being a sharp wizard, I seized the opportunity and took the risk to make the brilliance permanent. Jammy bastard I am, Padma agreed.


What? Couldn't hear it? You're needing me to say it again? No, don't ruddy mind if I do.

Padma and I are engaged.


Well wishes, bottles of champagne, good-natured heckling, and other gifts and goodies offering congratulations are more than appreciated and expected from those who know who they are.

BUT PADMA!!! You just canlt stop right there! You have to tell us everything that happened, and yes, I do mean EVERYthing. Was it romantic? Did he get down on one knee? Was there a horse and carriage? Violins? Tonnes of rose petals? What did he say when he asked? What did you say? Was it a total surprise?? What does your ring lok like? When can I come over and hug you and see your ring??

It was romantic. We were in Austria, staying at a lodge near the mountains, in Innsbruck. I woke up, and... there it was, on my finger. And he asked me- well, he told me to marry him, but of course I said yes.

It shouldn't have been a surprise, I know, because we've talked about the possibility of marriage... I reckon I was always expecting it. But there's a difference between planning something and implementing it, I've come to find.

You woke up and it was there? Was he watching you sleep? That can be romantic. Did he point the ring out to you or did you realise it was there instantly?

He told you? He didn't tell you how his world revolves around you, how your love has made him a better person, or beg you to marry him because the thought of ever being apart from you keeps him awake all hours of the night because he knows exactly how much he doesn't deserve the beautiful treasure he has found in you?

He was, actually. It's so comforting to wake up in his arms. He slid his hand over mine and I found the ring. You're certainly free to come over and see it any time, darling, it's beautiful.

He didn't need to tell me those things, Lavender; I already knew. You know, part of the magic was just the simplicity of it all, like this was the next step in our relationship, no questions asked, and it all fit together just perfectly.

I'm somewhat surprised to say it, but I can't believe it either!!!
