Yesterday morning, as I'd the bloody incredible fortune of waking up next to my gorgeous girlfriend and I was thinking how sodding brilliant it'd be to wake up next to her all ruddy the time, a ring found it's way into my possession. Being a sharp wizard, I seized the opportunity and took the risk to make the brilliance permanent. Jammy bastard I am, Padma agreed.


What? Couldn't hear it? You're needing me to say it again? No, don't ruddy mind if I do.

Padma and I are engaged.


Well wishes, bottles of champagne, good-natured heckling, and other gifts and goodies offering congratulations are more than appreciated and expected from those who know who they are.

I spoke to Kevin - he's agreed to pretend to be my boyfriend as far as Mum's concerned. I firecalled her tonight and told her. She was a bit surprised, but she seems all right with it - she knows Kevin, after all, and the fact that I'd stayed at his flat recently seemed to sway her.

I wouldn't be surprised if she says something to you about this, so be prepared to back it up - and for Morgana's sake, try to act as though you do like your former roommate for once, all right? Mum still thinks the world of you, and likely she'll expect to need to sop up your tears tomorrow or something equally horrifying. If you say something negative about Kevin, she may take it as you being jealous and none of us want to give her any ammunition, do we?

And please - don't tell anyone about this, Michael. It's only the three of us and my wonderfully annoying mother who know.

I know Padma and I're engaged, but we're not getting married in a few months and I've no plans to quit tutouring Douglas and Minna. What's going to happen to ol' Mr Quidditch if you're involved in a fake relationship with your mate?

That's just the point. We'll let Mum get used to you being engaged - it's too bad they don't cry bans like they used to, I reckon that'd settle her! - and let her think Kevin and I've gotten serious. Then once she's seen that you and Padma are a cert, Kevin and I can 'break it off' as far as she's concerned, and if Oliver and I are still dating, I can tell her that I'm seeing him a bit after that. I'm hardly going to tell Oliver about this rubbish, though!
